Duane (Dee) Henry Ekins

April 3, 1947 — June 21, 2020

Dee Ekins passed peacefully at home on June 21, 2020, after a short five-month battle of cancer. Dee was born on April 3, 1947, to Stanford & Verna Ekins in Provo, Utah.  Dee was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Dee grew up in Pleasant Grove, Ut, where he graduated from Pleasant Grove high school. After graduation, Dee enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country in the Vietnam War.
He worked at Geneva Steel for 31 years and at Hill Air Force Base for 12 years before retiring. He was not the type to sit and stay idle, so he went to work at Westlake High School, where he was currently working at the time of his death.
Dee married the love of his life, Karen, on October 23, 1994, and the two rarely spent time apart. Although they both had children already, you couldn’t convince him that his dogs were not his babies. Maggie & Hillie who have passed on, and currently Rufus & Lucy. Dee had a love for farming, which started as a young boy helping his Dad & Grandpa. He continued that passion throughout his life and with his wife.

Dee was a storyteller and a social bee, anywhere he went, he always knew somebody and could talk for hours. He loved being outdoors, camping, and fishing. He was a perfectionist, and it showed with his yard, and when leveling his camper, that would sometimes take an hour because it had to be perfect. He had a big heart and would help anyone in need. He was truly one of the last good ole’ cowboys. He will leave a hole in all of our hearts, but we know the reunion he had with his family & animals was joyous.
Dee is survived by his wife Karen Ekins, Children Stacie (Tyler) Vincent, Charis Ekins, Brittany (Bryan) Pratt, Ashlee (Brad) Tanner, Wesley Kirkham, Teresa (Mark) Hansen, Jeremy (Jayne) Kirkham, Julie Clinger. Twenty-nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and another on the way. Siblings Norman (Vickie) Ekins, Dallin Ekins, Cheryl Boone, Elbridge Coochise.
Dee is preceded in death by his parents Stanford Ray Ekins, Verna Shepherd, Grandparents and son in law (Jonathan Clinger)
A viewing will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2020, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Lehi 15th ward church. 1920 North 500 West Lehi, Ut 84043. All friends and family are invited to attend the viewing. There will be a graveside service only on Friday, June 26, 2020, for family only.
