Drew C. Stevenson (62) passed away on January 7, 2015 while holding his wife’s hand. His hard battle with cancer bough him an extra seven months with us here in mortality.
From the time Drew was born to the time of his death, he was a happy and social person. He was always about doing what was right, making the best choices and being honest. He always had a smile for everyone. It often took him a half hour to grab he mail as he would see a neighbor out of someone passing by and strike up a conversation with them. As a substitute teacher he often found someone in the lunch room to sit next to and start up a conversation with rather than sit by himself in a corner.
Drew loved the outdoors. He loved to fish, hunt, and go camping. Fishing was a favorite thing to do. River fishing, pond fishing, lake fishing, fly fishing, deep sea fishing – if it was fishing, he loved it. Drew loved to go hunting. He started out hunting with his father when he was about twelve years old and continued until a year or two ago. One of the best parts of camping, for Drew, was the dutch oven cooking. He loved to cook over the hot coals in the open air.
His love for the outdoors went hand in hand with his love for the scouting program. He was an eagle scout and spent about thirty years working in one way or another with the scouts. He really enjoyed being a scout leader and working at the Webelo’s Camp during the summer.
The most important things to Drew was his family and his religion. Drew served a mission for the LDS church in Florida-Alabama Mission. He held many positions in the church mostly as a teacher and a scout master. He also worked in the Salt lake Temple. He and his wife served two and half years as Stake Missionaries and another three years as Service Missionaries.
Drew had wonderful parents and was he first born out of five. He had so much love for them, for the home they provided and the love they gave him. He loved his brothers and sisters with all his heart and they felt the same. He was the most loving and caring husband in the world. His presence here on earth will be noticed by so many of us.
Drew is survived by his wife, Dianne; daughter, Heather (Gordon); granddaughters, Raven (Joshua): Gabrielle; mother, Patricia: brothers and sisters. Kerry (Lauri); Terril; Joel (Laura); and Shauna. He is preceded in death by his father, Jack.
A viewing will be held at Memorial Estates at 6500 South Redwood Road on Friday, January 16th from 6:00-8:00pm. The funeral will be held at the LDS church house located at 1460 N. Morton Drive in SLC on January 17th at 11:00am. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be at the Woodland Cemetery in Woodland, Utah.
