Dovlat Asadi-Azarbyjani

March 21, 1923 — April 9, 2018

Dovlat Asadi Azarbyjani, known to all who loved her as Mimi, was born in 1923 in Rasht, Gilan Province, in Northern Iran on the shores of the Caspian Sea. Her mother, Khanum Bala Amlashi was a native of Rasht, and her father, Neimat Asadi Azarbyjani emigrated from Baku in modern day Azerbaijan in the South Caucasus. She was raised in Tehran, Iran where she married the love of her life Siyyid Baghel Hosseini Mozari. Together, they had seven children, five of whom survived into adulthood. She spent her years in Tehran as the family matriarch, raising her children and grandchildren with devotion. In 1987, she immigrated to the United States to help raise her youngest daughter’s children and became a citizen a few years later to help the rest of her family pursue a life in the United States.
The most pious of women, her limitless love and compassion for family were steadfast; her radiant smile, rejuvenating embrace, and assurance—the constant in all our lives. We will remember the shuffles of her little feet down the hall, her sweet voice as the first to answer the phone, and her soft kisses on our cheeks.
And now, left only with her memories, we take comfort in her mantra: “as long as you are all well, I am well.”
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her siblings, and is survived by her five children: Nosrat, Mehri, Mostaffa, Mahmoud, and Farrokh; her eight grandchildren: Shideh, Arezou, Omid, Shida, Maryam, Jahan, Milad, and Donya; and her seven great grandchildren: Ramteen, Parsa, Pouriya, Aiden, Raha, Shayan, and Siavash.
Our lives forever altered by hers, she remains a shining beam of light in our hearts and a true example of love and sacrifice. May she Rest in Peace as our Angel in Heaven.
