Douglas Brent Shingleton

March 28, 1944 — April 24, 2025

Douglas Brent Shingleton, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on April 24, 2025, at the age of 81. He was born on March 28, 1944, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Clarence and Emma Shingleton and was the second oldest of five children: LeGrand, Eileen, Gary, and Janet.

At a young age, Doug worked delivering newspapers, shining shoes, selling papers downtown, and serving as a batboy for the Salt Lake Bees.

Doug attended East High School, where he played football and met his high school sweetheart, Shannon Kay Wall. They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. Together, they built a life centered on love, faith, and family.

Doug and Shannon were blessed with eight children: Sheri (Randy), Denise, Kirt (Nikki), Nicole (David), Danielle (Jan), Monique (Sal), Alan (Stephanie), and Preston. He was a proud grandfather to 27 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Doug worked for over 30 years with AT&T. Yet, it was never work that defined Doug—it was his unwavering love for his family. He was a devoted and playful father, and nothing made him happier than coming home after work to his children running out to greet him.

Doug loved sports and outdoor activities. He enjoyed tennis, racquetball, horseback riding, waterskiing, fishing, and especially golf — spending countless happy hours playing with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Sundays were his favorite days, filled with family gatherings and games in the front yard. With his ever-present video camera, Doug captured the milestones and everyday moments in his family members’ lives, building a library of love that will be passed down for generations.

He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony of the gospel.

Doug is preceded in death by his son Preston, his parents, his brother, Gary, and his sister-in-law, Marjorie.

Doug’s life was marked by faith, thoughtfulness, humor, and unconditional love. Though he may have left this world, his presence will be felt in the warm gatherings, the Sunday games in the yard, and the laughter of his family for years to come. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

The funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 29th at Larkspur Chapel, 949 E. 10600 South, Sandy, Utah at 1pm with visitations one hour prior. Burial will be held at Memorial Lake Hills Cemetery at 10055 S State St, Sandy, UT.
