Douglas H Campbell

April 1, 1922 — October 23, 2021

“I was born of goodly Parents, Hulda Maria Lundstedt and Julius H Campbell, in Preston, Franklin County, Idaho, on April 1, 1922 and reared on the family farm in Corinne, Box Elder County, Utah with my four brothers, Harmon Jay, Walter Karl, Melvin John, Reed Lundstedt, and our baby sister, Rita Mae.
We were schooled in the Corinne Public School and in Box Elder High School in Brigham City, Utah. We five brothers served in the military during and after World War II.
After discharge from the U.S. Navy, I attended and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Landscape Architecture and Planning from the Utah State Agricultural College (now Utah State University) in Logan, Utah. While in school, I made the best decision of my life when I asked Lois Reeder, a friend from my childhood and youth, to marry me. How fortunate for me, Lois accepted my proposal and she became my lifelong companion and mother of our 6 children: Robyn Adair, Corie Lynn, Kenneth D, Heather Lenore, Jonathan Rainey and William Cameron.
Lois and I raised our children in “The Avenues” area of Salt Lake City. I was employed as a community planner for Salt Lake County from 1950 until 1991.
I always had a strong conviction/testimony of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ and tried to serve faithfully wherever I was called to serve in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
On September 28, 2003, Lois graduated mortality after a brief bout with colon cancer. After Lois’ departure, I adjusted again to singlehood and spent the rest of my days as dad and grandpa in a condominium unit in “The Avenues”, and in the Salt Lake Temple as health permitted, always anticipating reunion with Lois.
I was able to live in my condo throughout the years with the help of my children. Last Christmas, covid struck, and I required more assistance than family could provide. I moved into The Cascades, a skilled nursing facility in Midvale, Utah. I was fortunate that Heather was a Nurse Practitioner there, so she was able to be involved in my care, and was the only family member I could see while the SNF was on covid lockdown. Other family members showered me with loving calls, cards, and favorite snacks!
Fortunately, visitors were allowed for a while during summer and early fall, but lock down resumed the past month.
My strength has waned, as have my eyesight and hearing, and I find that I look forward to the reunion with my beloved Lois, family and friends on the other side.”
Dad passed gently at 11pm on October 23, 2021. We will miss him dearly, but sadness is tempered by the joy of his reunion with loved ones, once again able to walk with vigor, and to see and hear the wonders there.
Preceded in death by Lois, son Robert, parents Hulda and Julius, siblings Harmon, Walter, Melvin, Reed and Rita Mae. Survived by children Robyn, Corie, Ken (Suzi), Heather (Wendy), Rainey (Jon) and Cameron (Jean), 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
