Douglas Emmett Monson

March 7, 1938 — September 26, 2020

Douglas Emmett Monson peacefully passed away on September 26, 2020.  He was born on March 7, 1938 to Melvin and Doris Monson.
Doug graduated from Olympus High School and served a mission to Paraguay and Uruguay.  He developed a deep love for the people of South America and the Spanish language.   He married Joyce Sutherland in the Salt Lake Temple on October 16th, 1967.  Together they raised 4 children; Todd, Jill, Mark and Ryan and were grandparents to 11 grandkids.
Doug was a successful businessman and built many relationships that he cherished. He was an avid fan of the University of Utah and a member of the Crimson Club.  He was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings.  He especially loved working with the youth and with the Church Athletic programs.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Joyce.  He is survived by his brother, Bill Monson; Children, Todd (Lori), Jill West, Mark (Amy) and Ryan (Joanna) and his loving friend Laura Lloyd.
A viewing will be held on Thursday October 1st at 12:30 to 1:30 at the Memorial Murray Mortuary (5850 S 900 E Murray).  Following there will be a graveside service at 2:00 at Elysian Gardens cemetery (1075 E 4580 S Millcreek).
The family would like to thank Community Nursing Services and the Wellington Assisted Living Center for the care they gave Doug in the last few years.
