Douglas “Bud” Howick

June 8, 1926 — October 13, 2017

Bud Howick, 91, passed away on Friday, October, 13, 2017. He left this world with family around him and was united with his loving family who have gone before him. He was born on June, 8, 1926 in Salt Lake City, the son of Vera Lithgoe and Mahonri Howick. Bud was a veteran of World War II. Serving in the Navy. He married the love of his life Evelyn June Alexander on June 25, 1950. Together they spent their very active life in Salt Lake City and their cabin in Fremont, Utah. They raised 4 children, 16 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. The family and friends had many great hours of recreations at the Fremont cabin. It was home base for fishing and hunting. Bud and Eve as empty-nesters had years of fishing together, both summer and ice-fishing. If the animal was available to hunt, Bud would get a license for it and would bag it. His great prize was a Boone and Crocket Moose. He worked for Denver-Rio Grande Railroad and he and his brother, Walt, owned Salt Lake Auto Wrecking and Salina Motors. His children learned to drive around the paths in the wrecking yard. There is not a person who could work as long and as hard as Bud. He cared, loved, and provided for his cherished family. Even to the age of 90 he both fished and hunted with family members. He will be remembered and missed for his great love, kindness and caring of his fantastic wife Evelyn.  Everyone who knew him will miss him for his great captivating stories, fantastic smile and gentle compelling qualities of welcoming you. He will be remembered and loved for his attitude of “Here I am – This is me – What you see is what you get – I’m genuine no pretense.”
He was an unbelievable husband, super guiding father, and heart-warming and greatly loved grandfather and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Carter and Vera, his brothers Carter Jay and Walt, sisters, Donna and Bonnie, his loving wife Evelyn, his middle daughter, Janeen, two grandchildren, Robby and Aaron, He is survived by his children Joan Schofield (Les), Sandy; Scott Howick (Laurie), Salt Lake City; Shelley Howick (Ken), Scottsdale, AZ; 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren and his brother Keith Howick (Gail).
The family would like to send a special thank you to Alta Ridge Assisted Living. Who loved and cared for him for the past 6 months. The care was unsurpassed, the love was beautiful. Another special thank you to Visiting Angels.
