Dorothy Wiley Jonas

December 22, 1925 — June 6, 2016

Dorothy Wiley Jonas, 90, passed away on June 6, 2016, of pancreatic cancer in Salt Lake City, Utah.
She was born in Covington, Georgia on December 22, 1925 to James William Wiley and Nezzie Merle Prickett. She graduated from Mansfield High School, Mansfield Georgia in June 1942. She attended Southern Business College several years later. Dorothy married Vaughn Thompson Jonas on October 13, 1951, in Elko, Nevada; they were married 40 years until his death in August 1991. She worked as secretary at Wheeler Machinery after her marriage until she became a full time mother. Her last job was being a Cross Guard at Driggs Elementary School, where she enjoyed the happy young faces she saw every day. She loved sports growing up, listening to the Brooklyn (then LA) Dodgers on the radio. She became an avid Hockey fan in the 70’s, a season ticket holder for 20 years with the Salt Lake Golden Eagles.  She grew to love the Colorado Avalanche, watching their games was her favorite form of entertainment every winter and several of her children became hockey fans as well. Dorothy was a loving sister, mother, grandmother, and friend.  She was a sweet lady who will be missed for her generous heart and thoughtfulness, always remembering others birthdays and sending cards.
Dorothy is survived by her beloved brother, Billy Wiley, Conyers, Georgia; her daughters and son; Karen (Gary) Jonas-Sapp, Joni (Derek) Furlong, Martha (Charles) Foreman, and Eric L. Jonas.  Grandchildren; Ryan, Tara, and Jonas Furlong.
