Dorothy Nellie Veenendaal Smith
Dorothy Nellie Veenendaal Smith 1923 – 2016 passed away from cancer quietly in her home in Riverton, UT., early in the morning on February 29, 2016, at the age of 92. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed. She was born May 28, 1923 in Salt Lake City, UT.
Dorothy was a WWII Naval Veteran and was a member of the Waves of the Wasatch. She was invited and went on the Honor flight in May 2015 which she greatly enjoyed.
She was an active member of her church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held many positions throughout her life. She was a talented artist and loved to work in many different media especially flowers and paints.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Gerald and daughters Geraldine, Ruth, and Jane Alice as well as her parents John and Nellie Veenendaal. She was also proceeded in death by her brothers George, Robert and sister Frances as well as her daughter-in-law Roselyn. She is survived by her two sisters Lucile Georgell and Bertha Mason and her two brothers Richard and John Veenendaal. She is survived by her children Gerald Walter (Linda), John W. (Diane), Nancy Willyerd (Fred), Nellie Kerekes (Jimmy Jr.) as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren.
A special thanks go to the Veterans Administration, Community Nursing Services, Hospice and her many friends.
Funeral services will be at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 12173 South 4000 West, Riverton, UT on Saturday March 5th at Noon. A viewing will be held on Friday March 4th from 6 – 8pm at the Lake Hills Mortuary at 10055 South State St. Sandy, UT. An additional viewing will be held at the LDS Chapel prior to the Funeral Services on Saturday from 11 – 11:45am. Internment will be on Monday March 7th at 9am at the Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery on Camp William’s Rd.Service Information
