Our loving mother and grandmother, Dorothy Jean Keller Richards, passed to the next life June 23, 2022 at the age of 93. She was born in Plano, Idaho, July 12, 1928 to Jean Alvin and Irma Hunter Keller. She was the older sister to Lyle, Dean, and Alvin Keller. She lived in Rexburg, ID until the age of 14 when her family moved to Salt Lake City, where she attended Lincoln Junior High, graduated from East High School and received a BS degree in Business from the University of Utah. She worked with her dad in the life insurance industry during high school and college and then supported her husband throughout his career in the same industry.
She married Orin L. Richards on June 1, 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple and together they had four children, Rolayne, Douglas, Michelle and Corinne. They lived in Salt Lake City, UT, Menlo Park and San Marino, CA while they raised their family. Later they moved to various locations in Orange County, CA and then to Palm Desert, CA. When Orin needed extra caregiving, they moved to Bountiful, UT to be near daughter, Rolayne. Orin passed away in 2007. Dorothy continued to live in Bountiful until 2020 when she moved to Legacy House in Ogden, again to be near her daughter.
Dorothy was a beautiful, refined, quiet, sensitive woman. She was a devoted mother and always kept a clean and orderly home. She learned how to sew and made clothes and costumes for her girls, and taught them sewing skills at the same time. She played golf, tennis, and bridge. She enjoyed traveling and she and Orin saw many parts of the world. Music was an important part of her life and she especially loved listening to her son, Doug, play the piano. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and attended when her health and circumstances allowed.
She is preceded in death by husband, parents, brothers and their spouses. She is survived by Rolayne (Bob) Collins, South Weber, UT, Douglas (Donnette), Fort Mill, SC, Michelle, Rancho Cordova, CA, and Corinne Rommerswinkel, Laguna Beach, CA.
