Dorothy Hardee Vlamakis

June 27, 1931 — December 30, 2016

Dorothy Hardee Vlamakis, age 85, passed peacefully from this world to the next on December 30, 2016.
She was born on June 27, 1931 to Welber Hardee and Edna Reese Hardee in Castle Gate, a small mining community in eastern Utah.
Now a ghost town, Dorothy often talked fondly about growing up there and the lifelong friendships that have meant so very much to her. She attended schools in the Carbon County area, and went on to study further at Utah State and BYU. Her intended graduation plans were interrupted by a 2 year courtship with a handsome (and persistent) young man from Helper, a neighboring town. Dorothy married Mike G. Vlamakis on September 2, 1953 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She embraced the Greek culture and traditions, spending years perfecting her delicious Greek cooking. In 1957, they moved to Salt Lake City where they made their new home and raised two children. Dorothy was always a very supportive mom and involved in all her children’s school, church, and sporting activities.
She loved music, history, camping with extended family and friends, and going to Wendover. During their retirement years, Dorothy and Mike were able to travel extensively, go on many cruises and enjoy their association with the Rio Grande Vets Club.
Survived by her daughter Kathy (Jeff) Connors; son Michael (Linda) Vlamakis; sister Joyce (Boyd) Newbold, brother-in-law Gabe (Sherrie) Vlamakis and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters, Elaine Johnson and Gwendolyn Wright; two infant brothers, Douglas and Clydell.
A viewing and gathering of friends and family will be held on Friday, January 6 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan.
Dorothy and her family would like to offer their thanks and sincere appreciation to the caregivers at the Wentworth of East Millcreek and Comfort Worx Hospice (Christian, Jesse and Team) for their loving care and support during the last 2 years.
