Dorothy Gibson Martin

November 20, 1927 — March 29, 2022

Dorothy Gibson Martin, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend returned to Heavenly Father on March 29, 2022 in Salt Lake City, Utah to be reunited with her beloved husband who passed away on March 28, 2011.
She was born November 20, 1927 in Memphis, Tennessee to James Finn and Ruby Marguerite Futrell Gibson. She married Lloyd Reeve Martin in Memphis, Tennessee on August 19, 1947. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
She graduated from Messick High School in Memphis, Tennessee and attended the University of Utahn in Salt Lake City, Utah.
She held many positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including secretary to bishops in the Rose Park 10th Ward and the Rose Park Stake and Holladay 3rd Ward, Primary, Sunday School and Relief Society.
She loved and enjoyed watching her four children grow and progress as they grew up. She enjoyed the picnics, family parties and especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they came along. She enjoyed traveling all over the United States and many countries. She enjoyed oil painting, crocheting, playing games with friends, working in the yard, and most of all, golfing with her husband all over Utah, especially in St. George and Memphis when they visited there.
She worked many years in the Chemistry Department at the University of Utah and enjoyed very much working with undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral students from all over the world. She sang with the Utah Oratorio Choir from 1975 to 1999. She and her husband traveled and sang with the choir in Israel at many holy places. She was an ordinance worker at the Salt Lake Temple with her husband from 1991-1995. She loved to plan cruises and trips to other countries, including Europe, Israel and Egypt, British Isles, Alaska, Central America and many Caribbean countries.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her mother and father, one sister and one great-granddaughter. She is survived by daughters: Donna Thomas (Larry) Urda, Utah; Deanna Plumhof, (Jim) Salt Lake City; Dennese Martin, Sandy, and son Kenneth G. (Christine) West Valley City, Utah. They have 16 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters: Martha Bennett, Mountain Home, Arkansas; Ruth TInnin, Tulare, California, and Carolyn Aldridge, Kodak, Tennessee.
A viewing will be held, Sunday, April 3, 2022 from 6:00-7:00 PM at Memorial Holladay~Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 South Highland Drive, Holladay, Utah.
Graveside services will be held Monday, April 4, 2022 at 12:00 pm at The Salt Lake City Cemetery, 445 North 940 East, SLC, UT.
