Dorothy “Dottie” Willoughby

Dorothy “Dottie” Kornhauser Cowan Willoughby, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away peacefully in Laguna Hills, CA on February 11, 2017.
Predeceased by her husband George and parents Richard Kornhauser and Elizabeth Mack Kornhauser. Loving mother to Richard, Mary, Jane, Robert, Anne, and Josef. Grandmother to Jason, Dylan, Joshua, Sasha, Zachary, Ari, Gabriel, Robert, Sarah, Amanda, Lex, Jack and Sam. Great grandmother to Piper and Luke.
Dottie was born in Milwaukee, WI in 1932. She moved to Catalina Island in 1936 where she and her family lived in the Zane Grey house while her father “Dick” was an advertising executive for Wrigley. In the early forties, she and her family moved to Pico Rivera, CA and then to Escondido, CA where she graduated from Escondido High School in 1949.
From an early age, Dottie was outgoing and entrepreneurial. In the late 1960s, as a single mother with 6 kids, she started a clothing business in Sylmar, CA. She raised her children to appreciate the arts, literature, and the meaning of hard work. In the early 1980s, Dottie moved to Utah where she went on to have a successful career in insurance sales in Provo and Salt Lake City.
Dottie was an avid reader, genealogist, and a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She will be remembered as a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and a deeply caring friend. Services will be held on February 16th at 2pm in Sandy, Utah, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Crescent 16th Ward.
