On Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018, Dorothy Carol Brother Lester finished her journey here with us and departed in her own independent way to join the love of her life, Joseph Gail Lester, as well as her youngest son, Bruce and his baby boy, Wade.
Dorothy was the youngest child of Albert and Emma Losch Brother, born November 17, 1934 in Union, Utah. She exemplified the dedicated and hardworking values of her German upbringing. Always busy, she raised 4 children (Carol, Joe, Marilyn, and Bruce) and always made time to help out neighbors and serve her community.
She served as PTA president, worked in the Primary, and helped run the concession stand for the little league baseball organization while Joe coached. As her children became teenagers, following Joe’s admonishment that she might as well go get a job where she got paid because she was always gone anyway, she went to work at K-Mart, where she eventually became a manager.
Family occasions always brought Dorothy great joy, rather they were the large extended family holiday celebrations of the entire Lester clan, a more intimate childś birthday party, or the annual family camping and fishing trips. She had a love of traveling. There were many family road trips when the kids were young, followed by trips and cruises with Joe to more exotic locations, which she continued to do with her children, grandchildren, and sister, Betty, after Joe passed away.
Dorothy had a keen mind and was very talented. She enjoyed reading a good book, working in the yard, or just sitting out on her porch swing to enjoy the warmth of the sun. She was a walking encyclopedia when it came to the movies and books that she loved. She was very talented at needlework and produced a multitude of embroidered gifts.
Dorothy is survived by her children and their spouses; Carol and Mark Overson, Joe and Patti Lester, Marilyn and Ed Los, and Bruceś wife, Deann. Also her grandchildren; Jacob, Bryce, J. Todd, Fairen, Chelsie, Heather, Madison, Alecia, Nicole, and Hailee and great-grandchildren Vicki, Tyler, Savanah, Mason, Hannah, Olivia, Grayson, Zayden, Camden, and Lachlan.
Her family is thankful to those caring individuals who went the extra mile to insure she was cared for and allowed to live with as much self-reliance as possible. Special thanks to the kind and caring professionals at Sunridge Assisted Living and Hunter Hollow. Despite the fact she missed being home, she developed warm bonds with many. We would all like to express our undying gratitude for the sacrifice Patti and Joe made, altering their lives in order to allow her to live out her final days in her family home, where she longed to be.
Her family will receive friends on Friday, Feb. 9, 2018 from 12:30 – 2:00 PM followed by a brief service celebrating her life and internment at Redwood Memorial Mortuary at 6500 S Redwood Rd, West Jordan, UT.Service Information
