Heaven gained a precious angel, Dorisa Amanda Waters Horton, cherished Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt and Friend on Sunday, September 27, 2020. She was 92 years old.
Dorisa was born to Maude LyVerda and Mark R. Waters, the second child of 8 children. She loved growing up on the family farm and running free with her close knit siblings. Family has always been important to her.
Dorisa married Blaine Clarence Horton on April 24, 1946, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. She made friends easily wherever they lived, be it Millcreek, Salina, Salem or Draper, Utah. She treasured every friendship. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, she held many callings, including working with young women in the Young Women’s presidency, and working with her friends in the Relief Society presidency.
She has many wonderful talents she loved to share. Dorisa made sure every grandchild had a quilt she had tied by hand, and later a hand-quilted quilt when they married. Her perfected hot scones and her homemade chili were family favorites in the fall.
Dorisa is survived by a sister, Janice Sommercorn, children: Sandra Andrus (Rick), Stephen Horton (Denise), Shauna Larsen (John), Scott Horton (Christi), and Sheila Anderson (Drew), 31 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband and eternal companion, Blaine C. Horton, one great grandson, and brothers and sisters.
The family wishes to express our love and appreciation to the wonderful, caring and compassionate staff and dear friends at Ashford Assisted Living in Draper, Utah. We appreciate the special care, love and professionalism we received from Dorisa’s Valeo Hospice nurse, Jessica Horton Barnes.
To help lower the risk of Covid-19, and limitaions we face, the family requests small children be left at home.
Following Salt Lake County’s mandate on facial coverings, face masks are required at all public gatherings. Social distancing will be enforced.
