Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on Saturday May 28, 2016, surrounded by her family after a short battle with cancer. She was very active in her church and was devoted to her Savior, Jesus Christ. Doris was always on the go and loved life. She was an avid bridge player, loved Sunday brunches, tennis, sailing and travel. But above all, Doris loved her family.
Doris was born in Novi, Michigan on October 20, 1924 to John H. and Grace D. Shinn. She grew up in Plymouth Michigan, but as an adult her life also took her to California, Washington and Utah where she ultimately called home.
Doris is survived by her 2 sons; David E Smalley (Jenette), Jon P. Smalley (Cindy) 2 stepchildren; Donna Rayburn (Robert) William Smalley (Bud) 3 grandchildren; David N Smalley, Melinda Sensenstein (Jakob), Stacey Reynolds (Kye), 6 great grandchildren; Kolby Reynolds, Jayden Reynolds, Cameron Gunn, Courtney Leishman, and Christian Sensenstein. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Eldridge Herschel Smalley, her parents; John and Grace Shinn, her stepdaughter; Gayle Smalley, and her brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, June 3, 2016 at Mount Olympus Presbyterian Church 3280 East 3900 South, Salt Lake City, UT, where a viewing will be held one hour prior to services. Burial to follow at Memorial Estates Cemetery at 3115 East 7800 South, Cottonwood Heights, UT. Reception immediately after graveside service to be held at Mount Olympus Presbyterian Church where a light lunch will be served.
