Doris Ruth Gysler Page

February 18, 1937 — January 22, 2022

Doris Ruth Gysler Page, our dear mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home on January 22, 2022.
She was born in Winterthur, Switzerland on February 18, 1937, to Adolf Hermann Gysler and Rosa Gremlich Gysler. Some of her fondest childhood memories were hearing the church bells ring daily and playing and exploring in the forest near her home on “The Agnesstrasse.”
Some difficult times came when Doris was diagnosed with tuberculosis. At the ages of ten, 14, and 16 she had to be hospitalized for three to nine months at a time. One time included a major surgery to remove part of her lung. The TB hospitals were hours away, making it nearly impossible for her parents, or anyone she knew, to visit. She was alone, scared, and faced the possibility of death at such a young age.
It was in these difficult times also, that her faith in God grew, and she decided she would indeed follow the plan her parents had for her—she would go to America, where The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints had many more members, to find herself a “Mormon” husband, and raise a family in the church. At age 21, she said goodbye to her family and homeland, and moved to Salt Lake City.
Doris soon met her prince, William ‘Bill’ Hales Page. One year after she’d arrived, they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 12, 1959. Their first few years were spent in Alabama, Michigan, California, and Utah. They finally settled in Denver, Colorado in 1964 to raise their family.
Doris made a wonderful home for her family, often cooking up Swiss specialties they loved. She taught her kids to work hard and to do things well, to take pride in what they do. She served in many callings in the LDS church. She was an expert seamstress, enjoyed puttering in her garden, playing the piano, and listening to classical music. Music was a continuous source of healing for Doris.
Doris and Bill moved back to Salt Lake City in 1998 to be closer to family. She loved and was grateful for her children, children-in-law, and grandchildren.
Doris made friends everywhere she went and could talk to anybody. She loved chatting with neighbors and meeting new people on her walks. She’d strike up a conversation and be genuinely interested in who you were.
Doris lost her companion of 61 years when Bill passed away on July 23, 2020. She has missed him terribly and looked forward to the day they would be reunited.
Just three days before Doris passed, she lost her dear sister Rosmarie Gysler Drury (Richard) on January 19, 2022. Rosmarie was always there for her, including in 1958 when Doris arrived in SLC. As the older sister, Rosmarie had blazed the trail in 1955.
Doris was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother Herbert Gysler (Anna). She will be greatly missed by her four children Christine West (Mike), Brent Page (Mirielle), Gregory Page (Lisa), Andrea Johnson (Bill), a proud posterity of 11 grandchildren and their spouses, 2.5 great grandchildren, and two brothers Richard Gysler and Reinhard Gysler.
A private family service will be held on January 29, 2022.
