Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt & friend, Doris B. Gee, left this earth on January 17, 2016 and is with her loved ones in heaven. Doris was born on Dec 17, 1928 in Salt Lake City to David E and Louvinia Carn Burrows, the 6th of 14 Children , she married Vaughn C. (Moe) Gee on August 4, 1950.
At the young age of 51, mom was left a widow with a child still at home when Moe died in 1979.
She retired from Blue Cross – Blue Shield, a job she so thoroughly enjoyed. Being the mail lady there, she knew everyone in the building. She loved them all and they loved her in return. One of them told me that she brought him so much joy when she stopped by that he wept openly when she retired.
The greatest joys in her life were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She brought out the very best in them. She was so grateful to Jordy and Kim as they cared for her through the many challenges she experienced in her final years. Not only did they lovingly give of themselves to her, but they gave her Brock & Corbin. Brock and Corbin were like her own babies.
Grateful also to her sister, Lyn, for being her advocate when she had to move to an assisted living facility. Lyn made sure she was treated good and her needs met.
She enjoyed her many summers at Echo reservoir in her trailer. Many friends would visit weekends and enjoy her hospitality. Her son, K.C, wife Cheryl and family would bring Polaris wave runners up and enjoy a weekend with her.
K.C. was her special helper early on. He was with his dad more than his mom. He was Moe’s assistant in helping to provide for the household and to make sure his dad was okay. Doris was always concerned of Moe’s well being and K.C. had the patience to handle his dad’s temper and language so that made him “moms little helper” who’s duties were to be with dad. Clover remembers all the times her mom gave K.C. money to take them to the ChuckaRama when she (mom) wasn’t feeling good. She would give K.C. $3.00 and it fed K.C., Clover and Chipper (Chipper was too young to eat much). Sometimes after parties at the house, her mom would think they were in bed, but in reality she and Chip would sneak down to the family room to get any of the goodies left over. Good times. Chipper called himself her “Christmas Slave”. Everyone knows how much Doris loved Christmas to the point of leaving her tree up sometimes until Easter (maybe that’s exaggerating a little, but you get the point). She would have him running here and there getting everything ready to decorate. He had to make the Christmas tree stand out of some wood they had, not like today with metal stands that hold water. He had to make sure the tree was straight or she would keep after him until was. Chipper and Rebecca miss all the times their mother would go out to their house to play cards and have dinner with them and Rebecca’s mother, Dianne. This was a weekly ritual until she had her stroke and couldn’t drive anymore.
She had a very special bond with her sisters. They were together as much as they could arrange it. In the later years when Afton moved to Denver they would rent places to hold a “sisters reunion” once or twice a year. We are all sure that the laughter that emanated from those unions was unbelievable. One year they invited their brother Kay to the reunion at Echo in her trailer. I think Kay probably wasn’t ever the same after (a good thing).
Doris appreciated all the soup and homemade bread Blanche would bring to her at least once or twice a month, plus the many times she would bring over a breakfast burrito or a hamburger, fries and a coke.
She looked forward to her weekly Skipo & Domino games with her brother Kay, wife Judy and friend Alidean. Doris was very good at winning the games.
She was devoted to and loved Jesus Christ her personal savior and attended Calvary Chapel Church of Salt Lake.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and 3 brothers and 2 sisters. She leaves behind her Sons and Daughter, K.C. Gee (Cheryl), Clover Baier (Ziggy), Vaughn C. “Chipper” Gee (Rebecca), Jordy Gee (Kim) 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, two Brothers-Leon and Kay Burrows , four sisters- Blanche Burrows, Lyn Grimaud, Irene Mirades and Marian Mendoca.
