Doris Fernelius was born on August 16, 1923 in Mountain Green, Utah. She left this world on August 19, 2014 from Legacy House in Logan, Utah. She lived an exciting life in the past 91 years, starting out as a farm girl, daughter of Peter Gustavus Fernelius and Bessie Lenore McGiven.
She worked during World War II at the Defense Depot in Salt Lake City where met and married Hosea Sorenson, giving birth to four children: Larry, David, Dennis and Shauna. In 1951 she married Herman Hans Freeman and gave birth to five children: Colleen, Becky, Mary, Carolyn and Allan.
Doris worked in the home to raise her family and after they had grown and moved away, she worked as a “Lunch Lady” for four years. She was then hired as an Instructional Assistant at Hartvigson School for the Handicapped in Granite School District for twelve years.
After Herman died in 1997, Doris met Leo Petersen at the Sandy Senior Center and married him. He died in 2005. She moved to Logan where she met Willis Arnold Finchum at Williamsburg and they were married in 2007.
Doris is known for many achievements during her lifetime. She has always been a wonderful singer with the ability to harmonize to anything. She played guitar and sang in the “Golden Oldies” band for many years in Salt Lake City. She was proud of her work with Special Needs children over the years, giving them love and confidence to make it through life.
She is survived by her husband, Willis Arnold Finchum, 9 children: Larry Sorenson (Barbara), Dennis Freeman, David Freeman (Marietta), Shauna Campbell (Dean), Colleen Gordin (Richard), Rebekah O’Kane (John), Mary Lucas (Ken), Carolyn Sherman (Brett) and Allan Freeman. She is also survived by 34 Grandchildren, 75 Great- Grandchildren and one Great-great grandchild.
Sevices will be held on Monday, August 25, 2014 at Murray Memorial Estates 5850 south 900 east Murray, Utah. Viewing at 10:00 am with funeral at 11:00 am.
