Doris Elaine Faulkner Salmon, 90, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully December 23, 2018.
She was born May 20, 1928, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the youngest child of Clarence and Amy Peterson Faulkner. She was a graduate of Granite High School and attended the University of Utah before pursuing a secretarial career full time. She was a secretary, later Executive Secretary, at Mountain Fuel Supply Co., later Questar, for 21 years, working early on and at the end for B. Z. (Bud) Kastler, Jr. (CEO). While at Mountain Fuel she met and married fellow co-worker William Henry Salmon, later divorced. She was later office manager for Sperling Realtors, and finally worked in various capacities for the City of Holladay.
She enjoyed volunteer work, especially as a reader for the radio network for the visually handicapped. For a number of years, she knitted 40 wool caps annually for needy children.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; serving in Primary, Sunday School, Relief Society, and in “one of the most memorable and spiritual experiences,” secretary to Stake Patriarch Irvin T. Nelson.
She enjoyed reading, bird watching, history, especially of the Holladay / Cottonwood area. She edited her sister Mary’s “Cottonwood Early Days” (1987) and authored the companion “Cottonwood Recollections” (1997). In November she was presented with the Holladay Historic Commission Lifetime Achievement Award.
She was very independent and had a wonderful circle of friends with whom she went on many fun outings. Thanks to the Cottonwood 14th Ward, spearheaded by Ann Wilson, and her many friends for all the love and support.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Mary Faulkner. She is survived by sons Douglas (Debi) of Ft Collins, CO, and Bruce Salmon of Palm Springs, CA; grandsons David and Jonathan Salmon, and granddaughter Julia Elaine Salmon.
A public viewing will be held Friday, December 28, from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Cottonwood 14th Ward, 5165 S Highland Drive. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 29, 11:00 am, at the same location. A viewing will proceed the services from 9:30-10:30 am.
