Doris Darling Stevenson Barton, 91, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2017. She was born to Sterling Watt Stevenson and Lenora Emeline Simmons Stevenson in Layton, Utah on June 30, 1926. Her father died when she was six years old and her mother married Leon Johnson who raised her.
Doris married Max S. Barton on January 30, 1946, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death April 28, 1993.
Doris grew up on a farm in Layton, Utah. She graduated from Davis High School and attended Utah State University. She retired from the Granite School lunch program. She was active in the LDS church and held many positions. She loved music, reading, crocheting, knitting, quilting, and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a mother to two daughters and six sons. She was a wonderful grandmother to 32 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Doris is survived by her siblings, Carol Bahr, Ann L. Harris, Keith Johnson; her children, Steve (Patti), Linda Murray (Bill), Sherman (Paula), Shauna Carrig (Tim), Alan (Laurie), Logan (Terri), Morris and Richard (Teresa).
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, LaRue Huxley, Maxine Smedley and Shirley Otteson and three grandchildren.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Logan and Terri who willingly invited mom into their home for her final days and for taking such excellent care of her. They would also like to thank Bishop Gordon and Peggy Rogers and their family, the Neil Lythall family, and all the wonderful neighbors and ward members who watched over her for so many years and were so helpful and kind.
A Viewing will be on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 20, 2017, at 11:00 AM at the West Jordan 28th Ward Chapel, 2666 West 7000 South, West Jordan, Utah. Friends may visit with the family prior to services from 10:00 to 10:45 AM.
Interment at the Kaysville City Cemetery, 500 Crestwood Road, Kaysville, Utah.
