Donna Hodgkinson Tidwell

June 8, 1925 — October 16, 2019

On Wednesday night, October 16, 2019, Donna Hodgkinson Tidwell, age 94, moved on from this life to a new adventure and finally reunited with her soulmate, Kenneth Beverly Tidwell.
Donna was born on June 8, 1925 to Albert Edward Hodgkinson and Katie Nye Hodgkinson in Vernal, Utah. She grew up on a farm and loved to tell stories about her childhood. Donna married Kenneth Beverly Tidwell on September 13, 1946 in the Salt Lake LDS temple. They spent 60 happy, adventure-filled years together before Kenneth died on March 20, 2007. Over the years, they traveled to many exotic and fascinating places to both collect butterflies (as Ken was a lepidopterist) and visit important historical sites. Her refrigerator held magnets from everywhere she visited and her house was filled with knick knacks from her travels abroad.
Other hobbies Donna enjoyed included crocheting, going to the opera, watching sports, especially baseball and BYU/Utah football, going on cruises with her sister, Ruth, and children, going to Festival of Trees each year to see her son-in-law’s tree, playing cards, and chatting with loved ones. She was known to be a “name-dropper” (as she put it), generous, stubborn, and active. Donna earned many trophies for her bowling skills, stayed active through walking, and ate a healthy diet, only enjoying sweets as a reward for her efforts. Slowing down physically as she aged was difficult for her, but she always tried to keep her mind active by doing word searches, watching game shows, and following the news.
Donna is survived by Beverly (Fred) Saxonberg of Beaverton, Oregon, Erma Gayle ( Rex) Heaps of Alpine, Utah, Boyd Kenneth (Thelma) Tidwell of West Jordan, Utah, and Guy Edward (Becky) Tidwell of Phoenix, Arizona. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren as well as her sister, Ruth Winn of Vernal, Utah. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, four sisters, and her granddaughter(one of only two), Katie Heaps.
