Donna Hauck Tanner

March 6, 1933 — June 30, 2017

Donna Hauck Tanner was born in Salt Lake City Utah on March 6, 1933.  Her spiritual body passed from this earth on June 30, 2017, she is now at peace with her other beloved family members, who are also beyond the veil.  Donna taught her family how to swim. She taught us how to swim and navigate in the rivers of life. She taught us the important values and lessons of having good character and what it truly means of being a good person. She taught us to love and accept all walks of life, without reservations or judgement. She was happiest when she married her true love Paul. Paul was her giant and her rock. Along with Paul, they taught us about history, art, culture, science, music, comedy, and appreciating life’s simple and free gifts of beauty. Her honest heart and self-expression was found within her written word. She had beautiful penmanship. She was your biggest fan and your loudest cheerleader. To her, you could do no wrong, as she saw the good in every living thing, every creature, even you and I. Donna was the polestar to her family. She was ever present and ever constant. Later in her life when she lived in Kentucky, where marriage and school temporary beckoned her away, her heart like a star, always shined in the west with her family. Whatever meaningful event you had, she was there. Whatever meaningful phone call you needed, she was there. Mom, Grandma, and friend, she was always there. She cried with you, and she laughed with you. Her laughter was a treat, it was the ignitor and fuel for telling all our jokes and stories. When you were with her, you knew she was also with you. Her eyes communicated that she knew and that she understood, that whatever storm in life that may come, her heart and arm would always be a place of peace and refuge. She harbored the weak and she bolstered the strong. At times when the winds were too sharp, she braved through them courageously, and immovable in her love and devotion. She taught us to chase our dreams, and by so doing to conquer our fears. She taught us to fight for what is right, to stand tall with confidence. Many times she supported us by standing and lifting us, even while she remained in the shadows. But of all the currents of life’s rivers, of all the many directions and lessons life moves at you, she taught us the most valuable swimming lessons of all: to be loved and to fully give love in return.
Mom, grandma and friend, we will miss you. We love you. And we thank you for swimming along with us for the rest of our days – until we meet again. Give our love to those who have passed before us: your husband Paul Tanner, your son Robert Hauck, your daughter Alanna Todd, your grandson Daran Casper, and your great-granddaughter Ashley Holtkamp.
Donna is survived by four children Lynnette (Jerry) Jellison, Michael Hauck, Connie (Dick) Saddler, Clarey Hauck.  Three step-children, Robert, Melvin and Greg Tanner,  13 grandchildren, nine great grand-children, and one great-great grandchild, numerous other nieces, nephews and family members.
