Donna Faye Goodrich Mackay

July 7, 1928 — September 2, 2021

Salt Lake City, UT—Beloved mother and grandmother, Donna Faye Goodrich MacKay, returned home to her Heavenly Father on September 2, 2021. Her family is grateful for the reunion she is having with her beloved husband, son, parents and siblings.
Donna was born on July 7, 1928 in Naples, Utah to Byron Goodrich and Violet Starkie Goodrich. She enjoyed a happy childhood growing up in Vernal, Utah with five sisters and six brothers, nine of whom preceded her in death. She graduated from Uintah High School and then attended Utah State University.
Donna married John Elden MacKay on January 14, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with six very active boys. Donna is often referred to as a saint for the remarkable way she raised her sons. Their life was full of adventures around all things boy—camping, hunting, fishing, sports and numerous animals, including lots and lots of bugs. Donna cherished her time with her boys. They knew she loved them unconditionally, no matter what, and proved her love many times over the years.
Donna had a true gift to love everyone deeply and eternally. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Through the years each grandchild has said they thought they had an “extra special” relationship with Grandma Donna, only to realize Donna made everyone feel that way. She was also blessed with an amazing gift to be positive. Donna’s happiness was infectious and she would always say, “I choose to be happy.”
Donna was a devoted, active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved the gospel with all her heart. She was a stellar example of faith, devotion, serving and ministering. She held many callings throughout her life and willingly worked hard in anything she was asked to do. Her brilliant ideas created many wonderful activities and events for the youth and Relief Society. Donna is a pure daughter of God and true disciple of Christ.
Donna was blessed with numerous creative talents. She loved arts and crafts, particularly oil painting, and perfected her skills later in life. She loved painting nature and outdoor scenes, giving most all of her paintings away. These paintings are treasured by her family and friends as they hang in many homes for all to see. Donna also enjoyed writing short stories and poetry. Her fun-loving sense of humor and quick wit came out in many of her poems. She loved reciting these poems to friends and family, always providing many laughs.
Donna truly enjoyed nature and taught her family to see the beauty all around. She loved looking at mountains, flowers and the beautiful sky. Clouds will forever be a memory of time spent with Grandma Donna as she taught her family to notice the beauty of the simple things in life.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband, John, who died in 2005 and her son, Scott, who died in 2002. She is survived by her sons Kirk (Michele) MacKay, Eric (Sherie) MacKay, Brady (Hollee) MacKay, Bart (Shara) MacKay, Lane (Cheryl) MacKay, Yoshio (Masako) Kikuchi, 31 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, brother Glenn (Marilyn) Goodrich, and sister Marquita (Ron) Gerber.
