Donald Ray Peterson

Donald Ray Peterson, age 90, died on Monday, February 13, 2017 in Salt Lake City, Utah at Pacifica-Millcreek Assisted Living Center. He was born Dec 19, 1926 in SLC, Utah to Charles Leo Peterson and Marjorie Luella Hansen. He served in The United States Navy during WWII. He was married to Carol Hale December 31, 1948 in Coalville, Summit County UT. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple August 30, 1957.
Over the years, he had many different hobbies and interests. He loved hunting and fishing.  When he was younger, he loved training hunting dogs and won several awards. Fly fishing trips to Yellowstone, fishing at Lake Powell, deep sea fishing for albacore and salmon fishing were some of the hobbies he loved the most. He loved woodwork and spent a lot of time building furniture for his wife and family. Later he spent hour’s working on stain glass art. He loved his garden of roses that surround his home.
He retired from the US Bureau of Mines and had an illustrious career at Grand Central as the Vice President over the Garden Centers and the PAX Company as the National Sales Manager.  He and his sweet wife served in several church callings, including a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the Bishop’s Store House.
He is survived by his 5 children: Michael Hale Peterson (Colleen), Jenifer Slade (Robert), Michelle West (Scott), Richard Hale Peterson (Rachelle), and Joseph Hale Peterson (Shellie) daughter In-law Ruth Peterson, 26 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren, and brother, Gary Lee Peterson.
He was preceded in death by his wife Carol Hale (December 2015), his son Donald Bradley Peterson (January 2017), parents Charles Leo Peterson (July 1980), Marjorie Luella Hanson (November 1990) brothers Robert Leo Peterson (February 2005), Richard Glen Peterson (November 2015), Charles Garth Peterson (September 2010), sister, Marjorie Lillian Peterson (August 2002)
Funeral Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on February 25, 2017 with a viewing from 9:30 to 10:45 am and a memorial service at 11:00 am, 4551 South 1200 East SLC, Utah. Interment will be at Elysian Burial Gardens 1075 East 4580 South SLC, Utah. Condolences may be left at www.MemorialUtah.com.
