Donald Kajma

August 12, 1946 — March 5, 2019

Don Kajma passed away in his home on Tuesday, March 5, 2019. This man loved deeply and unconditionally and lived life on his own terms. He met his sweet wife, LaRae, at the young age of 19, married on September 4, 1965, later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple, and spent 54 crazy years together. In those years he had the opportunity to try several jobs. He worked as a candy man filling vending machines, including those at the White House and several other prestigious buildings on his route. He was an ice cream truck driver (until he was fired for giving out too many free ice creams). One of his favorite jobs was painting cars for Hayes Brothers Buick in Salt Lake. He also worked at the Officers Club and then many years at Serta Mattress as a Plant Foreman.
Don always liked to share the story about one Christmas, when he was a young boy, he was caught by the Secret Service running across the White House lawn. He was taken in and received a bright red fire truck from President Eisenhower. His big claim to fame.
He had many hobbies. He loved to bowl and played on a league for many years. He also loved to hustle people at pool. However, his favorite hobby was “yard-saling”. He loved his grandkids deeply, and each of them has more than one memory of him haggling to get the price down. He was frequently a chauffeur, taking kids to and from school, sports, and even through 6 different states for a concert.
Don is survived by his wife, LaRae; children, Richard (Lorelly), Linda (Salvador Jr.), Charlotte (Nickolai), Joshua (Diana), Suzanne (Zachary), and Eric (Jennifer); his brother, Leonard (Brooke) Kajma; and sister, Linda Lani Kajma; brother-in-law, Paul (Kathy) Treglown, sister-in-law, Sharon (Myron) Miller and 18 grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Richard Fosbrink Sr.; mother, Dorris Poindexter Johnson; stepfather, Leonard Kajma; brother, Alan Kajma; and grandson Max Joshua Truman Kajma.
