Donald J. “Hook” Strieber of North Salt Lake City died 19 Aug 2017 at the Life Care Center of Bountiful.
Don was born in Holyoke Massachusetts to Alfred and Delia Strieber.
He began his Army career at a young age and served his country honorably for 27 years. Don was a veteran of WWII, Korea, and the Vietnam War.
He was an original Green Beret and went on to serve three tours with the 5th Special Forces Group in Vietnam; awarded a Purple Heart in 1963. He was also awarded a number of other medals for valor, service to our country and to his fellow soldiers.
In 1973 he retired from the Army while at Ft. Devens, MA. Don and his wife Trudy moved to Utah where “Hook” began another career with the U.S. Post Office in Salt Lake City. He made many friends there and talked often of them.
Don was preceded in death by his beloved wife Trudy, sister Ruthann, Granddaughter Jessica. Surviving him are his brother Russel of Florida, Daughter Karen, N Ogden, UT, Sons William, Pleasant Grove, UT and Michael, Las Vegas, NV and loving grandchildren from around the country.
Don was a force in his neighborhood, those who knew him remembered him, he had many friends who loved him, he was a kind and caring man. He will be missed by those whose lives he touched. Good-bye Dad.
A graveside service in his honor will be held Friday, September 8th at 1:00 at the Memorial Lakeview Cemetery.Service Information
