Our loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Don Isgar, passed away peacefully in his home on January 13, 2025, at the age of 84.
Don was born on November 3, 1940, in Boise, Idaho, to Robert Lee Isgar and Pearl Louise Sheldon Isgar. He was raised in Boise along with his only brother, Larry Isgar.
In 1961, Don married Marian Carol Maus, and together, they raised four beautiful daughters: Christina (Tina), Theresa, Dawn, and Shari. Don and Marian moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, shortly after Tina was born so that Don could complete his college education at the University of Utah, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology.
Don worked for the State of Utah as a social worker until he retired. He had a passion for old cars, winning numerous trophies in car shows, and enjoyed collecting coins and attending coin shows. Don was also an avid hunter and traveler, exploring many countries with Marian and even taking their two younger daughters to Africa twice. As a lifetime member of the Utah Chapter of Safari Club International, he held several positions, including President, Vice President, and Treasurer.
Known for his kindness and generosity, Don was dedicated to his family, often working multiple jobs to support his girls (all five of them). Don and Marian owned an ice cream and sandwich shop for many years, where Don loved creating new and unique ice cream flavors. His "E.T." and "I don't know" flavors were particularly loved by customers.
Don's greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially during weekend pool parties with his children and grandchildren. Let’s be honest: Don loved the snacks that were brought to these gatherings! He loved sweets!
Don was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, wife Marian, brother Larry, and daughter Dawn Haslam. He is survived by three daughters, Tina Bowman, Theresa Isgar, and Shari Isgar, and son-in-law, Reed Haslam. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Dustin Bowman, Danielle Bowman (Bryan), Saige Bonner, and Kylee Haslam, and two great-grandchildren, Chloe Bowman and Brysaiah Darnell.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Don’s name to the Parkinson's Foundation at www.parkinson.org.
