Donald M. B. Finch, 71, died Tuesday, Sept. 22nd at the Sandy Health and Rehab center in Sandy, UT, following a brief illness.
Mr. Finch is survived by his three children: Seth Finch, Andrew Finch and Steven Finch. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren.
Mr. Finch was born in Norwich, Conn. and spent much of his childhood in Jewett City, Conn. It was during this time he developed an affinity for fixing things and learned the value of hard work. He and his brother spent much of his childhood delivering newspaper to the local residents.
After high school Mr. Finch, a veteran of Vietnam, joined the Marine Corps as a mechanic. During his years of service he received several medals including the Purple Heart and the Presidential Unit Citation. After his honorable discharge as a Sergeant from the military, Donald served a mission for the LDS Church in Toronto, Canada. He spent much of his career working for the United States Postal Service. He usually worked the nightshift and worked overtime on a regular basis. He retired from the USPS at age 61.
In his later years Donald had three loves: reading, he took a weekly trip to Barnes and Noble, the Dallas Cowboys, and spoiling his grandchildren. Donald was also very generous with his means and made countless donations to help individuals and organizations he believed in. He truly touched the lives of many, though often times behind the scenes.
As a family we are grateful to the medical professionals and staff that cared for Donald in his final few years at Cottonwood Creek Assisted Living, VA Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Sandy Health and Rehab and Intermountain Medical Center
In the coming weeks Mr. Finch’s final request will be granted, as he will be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery.
