Donald O. Eggers
“I Love You, Sweetheart”
Donald Oren Eggers, age 92, passed away April 11, 2015, in South Jordan, UT. Born in Comstock, NE. November 22, 1922 to Heinrich (Henry) Eggers and Gussie May Petet. Preceded in death by all his siblings and their spouses, Helen (Gilbert Wadsworth), Alfred (Agnes Ellen Bardwell), Lewis (Luella Ruth Longly), Lucy (Clifford Dye), Maybelle (John Klontz), Stanely (Elizabeth Morse), and James (Melba Jensen).
His family moved to Hamilton, MT when he was in second grade. He loved the Bitterroot Valley. He was a Polio survivor at age 11, and went on to play sports in high school lettering in football and basketball. He married his sweetheart, Donna LaVae Alcorn, on March 7, 1944 in Hamilton. They have two sons, Samuel Alcorn Eggers (Becky Green) and Scott Alan Eggers (Janet Drake), 7 grandsons (David, Daniel, Joseph, Justin, Dallin, Bryson and Kason Eggers); 3 granddaughters (Ashley, McKenzie and Maria Eggers) and 6 great granddaughters.
Don was a meat cutter for 21 years, managing meat markets in Seattle and California for several grocery chains. He changed occupations to the building trade, doing what he loved as a General Contractor. He did new and remodel construction but really excelled in “finished work” and made many beautiful pieces.
Don loved to travel and took his family once on a 3 month tour of the US and later to Alaska. He traveled in South America and Europe. He loved camping and the outdoors. Don played and loved all sports. He was passionate about Scouting. As Scoutmaster, he took his troop to the Scout Jamboree in Farragut, ID. He helped organize the Western Montana Scout Council and received the Silver Beaver Award in 1994.
Don was a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved his faith and was sealed to Donna in the Cardston Temple. He served as a leader in the YMMIA, Stake High Councilor, Bishop, Gospel Doctrine Teacher, and as a full-time Missionary with his wife Donna, in the Ukraine, Donesk Mission, 1994-1996. His wit, humor, sound judgment and loving personality will be missed by all.
