Don Martin

Don J. Martin, 86, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, December 14, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.
Don was born on April 22, 1933, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Virgil and Evelyn Martin. In his early career Don worked as a heating & equipment specialist in Caldwell, Idaho, where he learned skills that later made him a master craftsman. Don was known for fixing the unfixable and building anything he set his mind to. One of his most cherished projects was a race car he built from scratch for his two grandsons, later featured in three Concourse D’elegance car shows. In his mid-30’s Don made a career change and started working for Thrivent Financial, where he became a district representative, selling insurance throughout Utah until he retired.
Don married Joy Lorraine Martin on June 7, 1953 and had two wonderful sons. Don was a devoted father, grandfather, and husband. In his spare time, Don enjoyed hiking and backpacking throughout Utah with his wife and spending time with his family.
Don is preceded in death by his parents: Virgil and Evelyn Martin, sisters Jean Gerdes and Lorraine Tewell, and grandson Joshua Martin. Don is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joy Martin, his two sons, Michael (Michelle) and Timothy, and his grandson Andrew (Ashley).
