Don Bertram Benson

February 11, 1931 — February 5, 2019

Don Bertram Benson, age 87 passed away on Tuesday February 5, 2019 at home among family members.  He was born February 11, 1931 in Houston, Texas.  However, his birth was recorded in his home state of Utah.  The son of Victor Bertram Benson and Gladys Ellis.  He married Kathleen Isobel Parkinson on March 27, 1953 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  They were married for 66 years.
He was proceeded in death by his son Roger Parkinson Benson, both of his parents, his sister Elva Rousse, brother Otis Victor Benson and Zack, his faithful English Setter.
He is survived by his Wife, Kathleen Isobel Benson; 4 children: Nancy Jenson (Joseph W Jenson), Enoch Utah; Kathleen Hiramatsu (Warren Hiramatsu), Burbank, California; Charles Benson, Bountiful, Utah; and Glenn Benson, Bountiful, Utah; 6 Grandchildren: Jennifer Jenson, Matthew Jenson, Jeffrey Jenson, Jordan Benson, Brandon Benson, Kelsey Hiramatsu: and 5 great-grandchildren.
To his son, Charles, who lovingly cared for him over the years, providing assistance and companionship, his siblings give him and everyone else who cared for Don their greatest gratitude.
Don served in the United states Army 82nd Airborne and was an accomplished paratrooper.
He was a graduate of the school of hard knocks and what skills he learned there he used every day of his life and taught his family those same skills. Don and his father Bert built the AAA Home Improvement Company, in Salt Lake City, where they built a business of remodeling and repairing homes until Bert retired and sold the business. Later Don, went to work for Hill Air Force Base as a civil servant after which he retired to focus on his real love of inventing new products to use in his quest for gold prospecting in Alaska where he spent many summers on the beaches of Nome, digging for gold. Unfortunately, he did not find the mother-load but, he enjoyed his hobbies and the great wilderness of Alaska. Don has probably already staked out a claim when he reached the streets of gold.  Where ever he is. When it came to making repairs and fixing things Don was an expert. There was nothing he could not fix.  All he needed was a roll of duct tape and he could fix it.  Don also had a green thumb and could grow all kinds of vegetables, fruits and yummy foods.  There was always a horn of plenty at the Benson Orchard.  He had a kind heart and a quick wit about him.  He enjoyed reading and spending time with family and friends.  He will be truly missed by all that knew and loved him.
