Devin Neil Barlow, age fifteen, passed away unexpectedly at his father’s home on the afternoon of August 27th, 2024. Devin was born to loving parents Keith and Kristine Barlow on September 25th, 2008. Though second-youngest of twenty-nine children, little Devin was hardly just another face in the long line of Barlow children.
From even before the ripe young age of two years, Devin developed a temporary curly hairstyle to accompany his signature quirky personality. He quickly found a deep passion for all things sports be they major team sports like football and basketball or random extreme tag events on the ESPN summer schedule. No matter the sports trivia, roster questions, or final score, Devin was a safe bet to have a solid answer.
Among Devin’s major claims to fame during his early years was his breakout role as heartthrob Dr. Harold Nelson in the hit no-budget home film The Next Element and its sequel The Next Element: Epidemic where his dorky humor and classic one-liners enthralled audiences around the family.
As Devin aged into his teen years, his growing mind showed a vivid understanding and reverence for those higher planes of thought, akin to a young prophet Joseph Smith. While he could joyfully engage in the mundane conversations of everyday life, he would often be found studying his scriptures or reading a gospel-focused book in an effort to better himself as a covenant-keeping disciple of Christ.
Devin was a shining star in a world undeserving of his selfless personality. Always carrying a large, authentic grin that lit up every room he entered, his ability to make anyone smile back worked wonders for his nieces and nephews who adored their time with their uncle. When in doubt, Devin could be found comforting a crying baby or entertaining a large flock of little ones.
Our sweet son and brother Devin was and is the personification of a true disciple of his Savior Jesus Christ. Though much too short, in all aspects of his life, he sought to better himself and be the man that God could depend on to bring to pass His work and glory. Like his Savior, Devin lived a life of selfless service. While he enjoyed playing sports, watching movies, or winning a board game, Devin always prioritized serving others and helping those who stood in need. Whether maintaining the yard, remodeling the home, helping a sibling move, or simply responding to the call of need, Devin mastered the trait of dependability and responsibility even in his youth. As one of only a few priests in his Young Men’s Quorum, Devin never missed his Priesthood assignments such as preparing the sacrament, often arriving up to forty minutes early to prepare the bread and water.
More than an incredible brother, diligent son, sports enthusiast, hit movie star, or helping hand, Devin stands as a man among boys who showed us what it means to be a “good and faithful servant” of our God.
Devin is survived by his parents Keith and Kristine, his twenty-seven siblings: Keith, Jennifer, Kimberly, Jedediah, Arthur, Patricia, Phillip, Ethan, Shawn, Shem, Savannah, Andrew, Mallory, Alex, Jarom, Hallie, Clayton, Melody, Patrick, Sheldon, Alicia, Mariah, Richard, Dallin, Colin, Stephanie, and Kyle; many brother- and sister-in-laws; and over seventy nieces and nephews.
Devin was greeted on the other side of the veil by his second Mother Kathy and his older sister Samantha.
While our sweet Devin continues his faithful devotion to the gospel of Jesus Christ on the other side of the veil, he is missed by all who had the privilege of meeting him. Yet he will continue to be remembered as the shining beacon of a faithful man of God.
