Derrell Glen Miller, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother, was born in Coalville, Utah on July 8, 1929. He passed away April 23, 2014 at home. He was married to Jean Sly in 1954. Later divorced and married to Marilyn Miller in 1984. He served in the U.S Navy on the USS Philippines Sea aircraft carrier as a fire control technician where he learned his trade.
Derrell bought into Utah Communications in 1954 and started Alpha Communication Sites, Inc in 1972. These two businesses continue to be a mainstay of the communications industry in the intermountain west. He developed the largest Motorola 2-way radio dealership in the state of Utah and the surrounding western states. With the guidance of Derrell over the last 60 years, Utah and Alpha Communications have become the respected leader in the industry. From the largest of projects, like the Olympics in 2002, to the smallest company, Derrell worked hard to satisfy the needs of both. His honesty, integrity, strength, and hard work made him successful in all his endeavors. His smile will be sorely missed.
From the lives and hearts he touched to the happiness he brought to each and every one of us, we thank him from the bottom of our hearts. As one of the past presidents of Beehive Wasatch Bow hunters, Derrell was an avid hunter and fisherman. Whether it is on the tractor in the fields in Heber, the oceans or mountains of Alaska and Utah, or the cornfields of South Dakota, he always had a smile on his face and truly loved being there.
To his long time friends, you shared your unconditional love, laughter, and devotion and became an extended part of our family and for that we thank you.
Survived by his wife Marilyn and children, Dan, Michael, Scott (Sally) and Jodi (Joe) Gerek. Also by his two step daughters Lesile (Brent) Hermansen, Sheila (Rick) Farley, 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one baby girl on the way, and by his twin brother Merrell.
He was preceded in death by his father, Glen E. Miller and mother, Ruth E Miller, sisters Arlen and Ruth, brothers, Myron and Gary and grandson Landon.
