Derek Blankmeyer

June 16, 1968 — September 26, 2015

Derek Lyn Blankmeyer has gone home to be with the Lord on September 26, 2015 at his home in West Jordan, Utah. His loving wife, Bethany, was at his side. Derek was born in Anaheim, California on June 16, 1968. He attended schools in Las Vegas, Nevada. He became an employee for Smith’s Food and Drug where he advanced to a District Manager for seven years and moved to the position of Director of Produce. Derek was always considered a leader within the organization.
In 2009, Derek was involved in an accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down. It was a long, arduous journey for Derek, but his courage, fortitude, and perseverance allowed him to remain an inspirational and powerful contributor in his personal and professional life. He used his physical limitations to develop in others an understanding to not give up. Derek challenged himself and others to never doubt God’s presence and that we all have a mission in life to inspire, give back, be significant, and be grateful in all circumstances. He developed and presented inspirational programs throughout the United States motivating employees of the company and in other organizations.
Derek was a loving and dedicated husband and father. His loyalty and care was always unwavering. He encouraged his children to know who they are and work towards their dreams. The family enjoyed meaningful experiences together, and Derek’s greatest joy came from watching his children thrive and grow into strong young adults.
Derek is the son of Roger Lee Blankmeyer and Dena “Kay” Blankmeyer.
He is survived by his wife, Bethany Blankmeyer of West Jordan, Utah, his father, Roger Blankmeyer (Cindy) of Sandy Valley, Nevada; his children Jordan Blankmeyer of Las Vegas, Nevada, Derek Joel Blankmeyer of Las Vegas, Nevada, Jacob Blankmeyer of West Jordan, Utah, and Jaycee Blankmeyer of Las Vegas, Nevada. Derek is also survived by his brothers Jim (Rachel) Blankmeyer of Ridgway, Colorado and Kevin Blankmeyer of Meridian, Idaho and sisters Kim (Eddie) Maggard of Ava, Missouri and Trisha Schaeffer of Montrose, Colorado and nieces and nephews all of whom he dearly loved.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, Oct. 2, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Redwood Memorial Mortuary and Cemetery in Taylorsville, Utah. He will be laid to rest at Delta Cemetery in Delta, Colorado.
