Dennis Deyoung

March 24, 1943 — August 9, 2017

Our loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend Dennis Raymond DeYoung passed away at his home from complications associated with COPD at age 74 on August 9, 2017 in West Valley City, Utah.
Dennis was born on March 24, 1943 in Brigham City, UT to Harold Frank DeYoung and Lola Lenora Campbell. He married his sweetheart, Janice Georgia Barzee on January 21, 1965. Dennis attended South High School and served in the U.S. Army National Guard, from 1964 to 1968. He was discharged with honor as an E-6 Sergeant. He was a marksman and trained in Explosive Ordinance Disposal. Dennis was proud to serve and deeply loved our country.
Dennis was preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his loving wife, Janice of 52 years of marriage, sister Sherma Jillson, stepson Rick Bass, stepdaughter Sherrie Goldstein, who he raised and loved as his own, daughter Tina Mace, daughter Danette Crowther, 9 nieces, 4 nephews, 11 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.
As a young man Dennis worked as a mechanic, photographer and printer for his parents business, Zion’s Color. He worked for Publishers Press as a pressman for 12 years before moving to Paragon Press working for 31 years, retiring Pressman and Foreman. Dennis was honored twice as Craftsman of the Year by his colleagues in the printing industry.
Dennis was an avid snow and water skier, scuba diver and outdoorsman. He loved to fish and camp with his family and friends. Dennis and Janice with his sister and brother in-law traveled the world on dive trips. He was involved in Mountain Men of the Wasatch. He and Janice and the kids loved to dress up and attend the rendezvous. One of his favorite activities was to saddle up his motorcycle and take Janice on road trips.
Dennis was a great dancer and the life of every party. You couldn’t help but laugh when he joked. Even in challenging times, he could put a smile of your face. You always remembered his warm embrace. In his later life, Dennis dedicated himself to the LDS church and was endowed in the temple in 2015.
Dennis has gone on one last ride. Our family’s love for this example of a wonderful man is immeasurable. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten in our hearts and minds.
