Dennis LaMar Briggs was born on October 6, 1948, to Della Mae Farley and Arthur Lamar Briggs in Salt Lake County, Utah. He married his wife, Collette Parry, in the Salt Lake Temple on February 4, 1972. He passed away on February 1, 2025, in his sleep.
Dennis grew up in Kearns, Utah, and had no shortage of adventures and mischief with his siblings and cousins. Allegedly, no crimes were committed.
After high school, he joined the military and was proud of his Marine service. He very often said, “Once a Marine, always a Marine”, and he lived by that every day. He earned his Purple Heart in Vietnam which was something he held very close to him.
After returning home from the service, he met his sweetheart, Collette through a blind date. Even though when he initially proposed she said she had to attend BYU. She then agreed to marry him. They had two children, Serina and Cody (aka built-in fishing buddies).
Dennis had many passions in life. To say that he loved the outdoors would be a gross understatement. He spent every moment he could camping, hiking, and fishing with his family. But he would jet to the Uintah mountains solo if he felt the urge to do so. Red Mountain and Moon Lake will always hold a special place in his and his family’s heart. He always said nature was the place where he felt most comfortable.
Dennis had an affinity for animals. Animals would gravitate toward him and his energy. He particularly loved dogs and treated his own like they were true members of his family and spoiled each and every one of them. From St. Bernard’s to ankle biters, he adored them all.
Always an avid music lover, Dennis had an expansive collection that he enjoyed immensely and loudly. His favorite era was the golden oldies, the music that he listened to during his adolescence. If you knew Dennis, you know The Beach Boys.
Dennis loved the Book of Mormon and he devoured its pages over and over again all throughout his life. He loved to share passages and its teachings with his children. He had a firm belief in his church and his God and felt privileged to hold the priesthood and to help give blessings with his son in times of need.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 53 years Collette; his children Serina (Ryan) Smith and Cody (Sydney) Briggs; six grandchildren: Elyse, Trinity, Faith, Levi, Eve, and Grace; brother Randy (Carol) Briggs; and sister Sherry (Bob) Evans.
He is preceded in death by too many but those with whom he is assuredly having joyful reunions with now.
“When the day is over, I close my tired eyes. Music is in my soul”.
