“One of a kind”
Our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend suddenly passed on December 16, due to medical complications at the age of 71. We will miss him dearly.
Denis was born in DeQueen, Arkansas, on April 24, 1949. After graduating from Horatio High School, AR, he went on to graduate from Utah Technical College with a degree in electronics. He settled in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he met the love of his life on a blind date and hasn’t been apart from her since.
In his professional life, he traveled all over the state and the US and even contracted for the Utah ski resorts, installing computer equipment and surveillance cameras on the slopes for the Olympics in 2002.
Dad liked to garden and was so proud of his last batch of tomatoes, which he loved to share with others. To him, food was love and he enjoyed feeding the ones he cared for. He was known for whipping up a full breakfast at break-neck speed any time of day.
Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Dad managed his illness with strength and grace and wanted to spend as much time with his family as he could.  He fought through years of being tired and ill just so he could be here for us.
Denis was someone who had a firm understanding of what was important – the simplicity of living a life with those you love, and he loved his family like crazy.
He took extreme pride in his three grandchildren and would beam with happiness whenever they were around. Dad was a very hands-on grandpa, attending every sporting event and school activity, and was always available at any time when we needed him. He was someone you could depend on to always be there. He was our rock and firm foundation.
Denis’ friendships survived decades and distance from grammar school to college, then to every facet of his life. He never met a stranger and if you were, you weren’t for very long. Dad was the most sincerely loving person with no attachments to material things – he would literally give you the clothes he was wearing, all you had to do was mention you liked something and he would immediately insist on giving it to you.
Dad could fix anything from a simple TV remote to a heartbreak with his embrace and encouraging words. We will miss his conversations about how the “real world works,” his wisdom, life lessons, and his constant need to feed everyone.
Denis was one of a kind. His hard work and love of his family are great examples he leaves his children and grandchildren, and to always do what’s right and good. He is survived by his wife Ruthann; sister Glenda (Mike) Icenhower; his two children, Bryan (Karen) Wolcott and Chari (William) Spivey; and three grandchildren, Kaden and Kyra Spivey and Shaylee Wolcott. He is preceded in death by his mother, Dorotha Ann Wolcott, and father, Fred Edward Wolcott.
The true measure of a man is how much love he gives; how selflessly he shares whatever he can to help others; how consistently he lifts up those around him with a kind word; a compliment; a meal made with love; a humble ear or the very shoes off his feet.  By this measure, Dad was immeasurable.
The love Dad spread on this earth continues to grow and will live on, and that is the ultimate measure of any human being.
We love you Dad. Now and forevermore.
The family will hold a private viewing, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date TBD.
