Delores “Dee” Hanna Lingmann Broderick Carlow

November 12, 1932 — October 27, 2016

Delores “Dee” Lingmann Broderick Carlow; beloved mother, wife, Grammy, and friend, passed away peacefully in her sleep of natural causes on October 27, 2016. Born November 12, 1932 to Ernst Gustav Lingmann and Martha Hill Lingmann, she was the ninth of 14 children. Martha died in 1946 and Hedwig “Heta” Minna Klatt Lingmann became the loving companion and step-mother to Ernst’s children. Only three of her siblings are still on this mortal sphere; Orson Lingmann, Anita Lancaster, and Rhea (Don) Beckstead, and two sisters-in-law; Vonna Olmstead and Crystal Barrett. Her first husband Rex Richard Broderick passed away far too early at the age of 49 in 1977 after a short, valiant fight against cancer. Her oldest son Wilford “Wiff” Rex Broderick, passed away after a long, heroic battle with cancer at the age of 46, in 2002. She is survived by her four children Ernest “Ernie” Dee (Ranae) Broderick, Sheryl (Mike) Nay, Bruce Richard Broderick, Brenda (Rick) Cobb; her daughter-in-law, Christine “Chris” Broderick; ex-husband, and still close friend, Rulon Carlow; her stepchildren; Tammy Carlow, Carrie Browning, and Jody (Richard) Herpel. She also leaves behind 22 grandchildren and their spouses, 38 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Our beloved mother was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She said the happiest day in her life was the day she was sealed for time and all eternity to her husband Rex and their five children. She served for many years as a young women’s advisor, primary teacher, visiting teacher, ward newsletter editor, and visiting teaching supervisor. Her life was defined by service. She was happiest when she was cooking, cleaning, sewing or crocheting something for someone other than herself. She loved being surrounded by her family. She was famous for cooking meals to feed 50 – 100 people at a time. She loved to bake and spent countless hours making hand-decorated birthday cakes and wedding cakes. Her favorite act of service was tending her grandchildren. She would beg her children to go out on dates or leave on “Get Away” weekends so she could spoil her grandchildren. She will always love her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they in turn adore her. Dee’s most defining trait was her unconditional and unwavering love and acceptance of anyone, regardless of their situation and choices.  She looked for the best in everyone and always found it and would lavishly praise you for your strengths.  Everyone loved to be around her and therefore her house was always filled relatives and friends.
Somehow, Delores found time to work full-time for forty years. Her favorite jobs were working as a purchasing agent at Toran Corporation and as a loan officer for the Salt Lake County Housing Authority. She was a dedicated worker who always gave her best and did not quit until the job was done, even if it meant working nights and weekends. She instilled the love of work in all of her children.
We will greatly miss our dear mother. We rejoice in the knowledge she is celebrating a joyous reunion in heaven with her family and friends who have preceded her in death. We want to thank the many doctors and medical professionals who have treated our mother these past trying months. A special thanks to our Hospice providers from CareSource Hospice who have patiently and lovingly served our mother the last few weeks of her life and Mountain View Mortuary & Cemetery for mother’s last needs.
