Delores Auger

November 24, 1922 — December 3, 2014

Delores Hansen Auger, 92, devoted wife, beloved and dedicated mother to 8 children, much loved Grandma Dee to 41 grandchildren and 74 great-grandchildren (4 more coming soon), passed away peacefully due to a stroke, in her home in Salt Lake City, Utah, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, December 3, 2014.
Delores was born November 24, 1922, in Mink Creek, Idaho, to Christen and Persis Ellen (Nell) Watson Hansen. Her childhood on the Peek-a-Boo Ranch homestead was filled with adventure, herding turkeys and playing with family and cousins. Mother was an academic scholar, valedictorian, Pep Club and LDS Seminary officer, graduating with honors from Preston High School in 1941.
During WWII, Delores worked in Preston Idaho and Ogden Utah along with serving in the USO and writing to her U.S. Marine sweetheart, Daniel Jensen Auger of Preston Idaho, who was serving in the Pacific War Campaign. Mom and Dad were married on August 14, 1945, “V-J Day,” in the Logan LDS Temple. They lived in Preston until 1951, then moved to Salt Lake City. Along with raising a large family, Mother served in many church callings in the ward and stake Relief Society, Young Women’s and Primary, and later serving as an Ordinance worker for 15 years in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers for over 60+ years and a Docent Hostess for 15 years at the Pioneer Museum. Mother was a hard worker, poet and writer of numerous family histories. She loved her book club and was involved in many charitable and community service activities and enjoyed working for 31 years at the Hotel Utah. Mother loved to travel, visiting over 20 foreign countries and countless family road adventures. She often said, “Life is a journey and I have enjoyed the trip!”
Mom and Dad were married 59 years before his passing in 2004. Delores was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, Paul and Keyth Hansen and sister Dorothy H. Packer. Delores is survived by her children, Danelle (Paul) Jensen, Lora Jean Larsen (Rodney Payne, deceased and Richard Larsen, divorced), Carole Ann (Micheal) Carr, Paula Dee (John) Rutter (David Strong, deceased), Keyth Daniel (Becky), Colleen Rita (Gary) Bozung (Brad Johnsen, divorced), Mark Hansen (Patricia), Bradley Christen (Rebecca), along with her much loved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held, Friday, December 12, 2014 at 1:00pm at the Salt Lake Rose Park 9th Ward, 760 No. 1200 West. Viewings will be held at the church, Thursday evening, December 11th from 6:00 to 8:00pm and also prior to the services from 11:30 to 12:30pm.
Graveside internment will be Saturday, December 13, 2014 in the Mink Creek Idaho Cemetery at 1:00pm.
