Delamar “Gov” Holt, Jr.

DeLamar “Gov” Holt, Jr. was born June 27, 1936, in Salt Lake City to DeLamar and Afton Hess Holt and returned to his heavenly home December 11, 2021, in Holladay, Utah. Gov spent his first 16 years in Montrose, Colorado and then moved back to Salt Lake where he graduated from East High in 1954. He served an LDS Mission to the British Mission serving in England and Scotland from 1956-1958 before graduating in Business Marketing from the University of Utah in 1961. He married Wilna Wagstaff (daughter of Arthur John and Bessie Wagstaff) June 12, 1961, in the Salt Lake Temple.
Gov and Wilna settled in Southern California from 1963-1975 before returning with their five children to Holladay, Utah. Gov had a successful career in sales and management with several different companies and spent the last 30 years of his career with Security National Life Insurance and Memorial Estates Cemeteries and Mortuaries. He enjoyed his service in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints which included Elders Quorum, Young Men, Bishopric and High Council. He had a testimony of the Plan of Salvation and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He wanted his children and grandchildren to know of his great love for his Savior.
Gov was an avid sports fan and was the first recipient of the LDS Church Homer C. Warner Athletic Award and loved the years he spent on the Chain Gang during BYU football games. He is survived by Wilna, his sweetheart of 60 years, their children: Kay (John) Thomas, Karen (Robbie) Bosco, David (Jill) Holt, John (Michelle) Holt, 22 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren, sisters Marlene (Paul-deceased) Curtis, Janet (David) Dungan, Kay (Ruel) Barker and many beloved nieces and nephews. Gov is preceded in death by his angel daughter Kathi Marlene…”the wind beneath his wings.” A viewing is scheduled for Friday, December 17, 2021, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Memorial Holladay~Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 S Highland Drive, Holladay, Utah. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 18, 2021, at 12:00 noon with a viewing prior to the service from 11:00-11:45 a.m. at the Holladay 10th Ward Chapel located at 4061 S Chapel Drive in Holladay. Interment to follow at the Memorial Holladay Cemetery, 4900 South Memory Lane, Holladay, Utah.
