Decosta “Dee” Quinn Andersen

April 30, 1926 — January 29, 2020

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend Dee Andersen age 93 of Monroe Utah, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2020.
Dee was born on April 30, 1926 in Monroe, Utah, a son of Anders K. Linden Andersen and Ruth Ann Romine. Dee married the love of his life Renee Robinson on June 11, 1947, in the Manti Temple. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and held many important positions and loved to go to the temple on a consistent basis. He loved the Lord with all his heart and had a very strong testimony of the restored gospel.  He worked for U.S. Gypsum, Highland Dairy, Bennett’s Paint and Glass and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
He came very close to death on many occasions throughout his life and it was a miracle that he was able to live all 93 years. His first occasion with death was in Germany at the end of the war. He was assigned to the bomb disposal unit to find and explode ammunitions that did not go off during the war. On one occasion his army truck was blown apart while his group was disposing of a bomb. The other was while he was driving to work one morning, he was hit by a train that destroyed his truck and broke almost every bone in his body. He recovered from both but had trouble with his hip, back, fingers and arms for most of his life.
Family was Dee’s greatest love in life. He lived each day of his life to provide and take care of his loving wife and children. He loved to spend time with his family and play and sing his guitar to the family and friends.
Dee grew up in a large family with two brothers and two sisters Monte Andersen, Dorthy Lott, Monida Asay, Lamar Andersen. The brothers were always competing with each other and if one bought a new truck the others would purchase new trucks within weeks. All three brothers purchased park models down in St. George and all three purchased and raised their children in the Rose Park area. The brothers and sisters were very close and spent many years spending time and traveling together. Dee would sing with his two sisters Dorthy and Monida when they were younger and were in great demand as a singing group.  When his sisters passed away, he was always looking forward to time he could play with them again.
Dee learned on his own to play the guitar at an early age of 12. He never had any official training and could not read sheet music, but he could play anything he listened to. He would not let a day go by without picking up his guitar and playing at least one song. He played until he was 92 when his hands finally gave out and he could no longer feel his fingers. He wrote many songs but his two greatest are one to a co-worker who lost his son in a tragic shooting accident called “Dear Daddy” and the other was to Renee his sweet wife “I am Leaving Now”.
He is survived by his wife Renee Andersen of Salt Lake; his sons Sam Andersen, Joe Andersen (Hazel) and daughter Carol Ann Lewis (Jim). He has eight grandchildren all living; Bryan Andersen, Jessica Smith, Angela Webster, Sarah Fornelos, Joshua Lewis, Karen Rodriguez, Timothy Andersen, and Blake Andersen. He has 13 Great Grand Children: Koi Smith, Cole Webster, Kenley Smith, Gabe Layton, Seth Valdez, Anaiah Smith, Aryalynn Webster, Olivia Fornelos, Ammon Smith, Sandino Rodriguez, Sammy Fornelos, Sophora Rodriguez, and Logan Andersen.
