Debra Louise Goebel

May 31, 1960 — January 30, 2019

Debra passed away from a pulmonary illness in the early morning of January 30, 2019 in the comfort of her own home in Sandy, Utah. She was born May 31, 1960 to Lilly Margaret and Orlando Alonzo Lucero in Alamosa, Colorado. She is preceded in death by her father and her son, Carl George Hills III. She is survived by many beloved family members, including her mother, her husband Russell William Goebel, her first husband, Carl George Hills II, her daughter, Alyssa Hennefer (Rob), her sisters Valerie Campbell and Liza Corwell (Cory), and her five grandchildren, Ryley, Elle, Zoey, Robbie, and Hannah.
Debra married Russell Goebel on July 5, 2004 and they enjoyed many great years rooting for the Cubs and spending time together reading and finishing crossword puzzles. Prior to that, Debra was married to Carl George Hills II on September 6, 1978. They were married for 23 years and had two wonderful children.
Debra loved to travel, and particularly enjoyed her spent time in the United Kingdom and the island of Capri off the coast of Italy. Despite her affinity for overseas travel, her very favorite place was Disneyland, where she spent as much time as possible with her parents, children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Everyone remembers her as the fun aunt and grandma.
Debra loved being with her grandchildren. She would often babysit them, and they enjoyed having picnics on the lawn and playing games. She always made time to give her full attention even to her youngest grandchildren. Her grandchildren weren’t the only people to enjoy Debra’s sweet personality, however, because she was driven by the desire to make others happy; she was uniquely generous, giving her time, money and gifts to everyone around her whenever she could. She was a peacemaker and an optimist, and could always be counted on to lift the spirits of those around her and let them know how much she loved them.
Debra will be greatly missed by all of her friends and her family, but we are comforted by the thought that she is now resting with her sweet son Carl.
