Deanna (Dee) Jean Goodsell

June 13, 1939 — November 3, 2019

Born June 13, 1939 to Ernest and Millie Ann Skinner Goodsell, our beloved mother, grandmother, grandma great, aunt, and everyone’s friend peacefully passed away on November 3, 2019 with her loving daughter by her side.
Dee was born and raised in Utah and loved living here. She snow skied, camped, hiked, fished, water skied, and loved the adventure of the outdoors. Prior to graduating from West High School in 1957, she was a majorette as a teen and loved boys and dancing as evident from the many dance cards she mounted carefully in her treasured keepsake book.
Dee was a proud and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and in her youth participated fully in the Y.W.M.I.A. program earning certificates of achievement for her dedicated acts of kindness and faith. Dee lived a life of service. She volunteered with the La Leche League helping nursing mothers. She was a Girl Scout as a girl, and as a mom, she was a Girl Scout Leader. She served her community as a Selective Service volunteer and after retiring, she served a mission for her church at the Family History Library.
After graduating high school, Deanna worked at the telephone company as an operator. She bought her own car and planned and made a trip to drive and visit her aunt in California with a friend. After returning to work in 1978, she worked for her church at the Family Services office in Sandy and eventually worked as a secretary in the facilities department and then the church history department in their offices downtown.
Dee loved everything about photography, traveling, gardening, learning computers, and having grandchildren. She collected wind up toys to share with her cherished grand kids and took advantage of every opportunity to spend time with them. Her grand kids were the smartest, sweetest, most attractive, kindest children in all the world. She could not have been prouder.
She was also very proud of her determination to be self-sufficient when it came to maintaining her home. She was often seen on her roof fixing her swamp cooler, replacing shingles, and eventually replacing her roof. She learned how to side her house and managed the whole project with help from her ward. She could fix almost anything in a sprinkler system and had quite a few plumbing skills as well – from replacing a toilet to replacing her food disposal, there were very few things she couldn’t figure out how to fix.
She lived a good long life and was so proud she made it to 80. She is proceeded in death by her mother and father, and sister Gloria Johnson.
Services will be held at 2 pm on Friday, November 8, 2019 with a viewing one-hour prior at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 S. Redwood Rd.
