Dean Arbert Pyper

January 25, 1930 — August 15, 2019

On Thursday, August 15th, 2019 our father passed away peacefully in the comfort of his own home only 5 months shy of what would have been his 90th birthday. He was born January 25, 1930 in Salt Lake City, UT to Moses A Pyper and Fern L Anchorstrand. He married Marilyn M Ridd on March 7th,1951. They had celebrated 65 years before her passing in August of 2016.
Dean served with the Utah Air Force National Guard from 1947-1959. He learned various skills throughout the years. His duties included being a clerk typist to aircraft mechanic and a petroleum supply specialist before he retired. In 1953 through the veterans program he took a course at the Radio Institute and became a certified Radio, Electronics and Television technician. This would eventually attain him a job with RCA and then onto Sperry Rand, which later became known as Univac and last Unisys. An American global information technology company that provided IT services, software and technology. He retired in 1992 after 30 years of service. He was always tinkering with something in his workshop in the basement. Dad loved gadgets and was an inventor of many of them that unfortunately he never tried to patent them. A sideline job he took on during the mid 60’s through the early 70’s was producing the electronic special effects at The Hawaiian restaurant that was envisioned by the owner Johnny Quong, providing lightning flashes, thunder rumbling, floor vibrations and a palm tree that would crash to the ground. He was the voice behind the storm that was created to go along with all the other special effects.
Both our parents were kids at heart.  They were easily entertained by the various animated musical and dancing stuffed characters that were given to each other or by others as gifts, which showed their sense of humor and provided endless entertainment for the grand kids. For years he and our mother donated to many charities, especially those who helped animals, which began mostly with our mom and continued on with our dad after her passing.
“Celebration of his Life” took place at the Pyper residence on August 24th.
He is survived by all 6 children: Laurie (Robert) Gallegos, Shelly Loomer, Darren Pyper, Julie (Jeff) Sanders, Shawn Pyper and Scott Pyper. 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn in 2016, his parents, and 1 brother, Richard L Pyper of Montgomery, Alabama in 2018.
We would like to especially thank our youngest brother Scott who has autism for all the love, patience and dedication in taking care of our father and mother that made it possible for them to remain in their own home during their elderly years.
