David L. Purrington

December 9, 1949 — November 7, 2019

David Lloyd Purrington, beloved Son, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Uncle, and Friend, returned to the loving arms of his Father in Heaven on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at the age of 69, surrounded by his loving family.
Dave was born on December 9, 1949 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lloyd George and Norma Summerhays Purrington. He attended Granite High School & the University of Utah, and also served in the U.S. Army.
Dave married Shelley Solum on August 20, 1971. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Dave loved Shelley more than anything and always went the extra 10 miles to see that she was happy. Dave & Shelley had 2 amazing children, Brittany and Jason, whom they adored. Dave loved spending time in the outdoors, especially with family and friends. His best-loved times were spent at “the dunes”, Fairview Canyon, Whitney Reservoir, St. Anthony, Idaho, and countless other destinations, riding 4-wheelers and camping. In later years, he could be found in the nearby mountains, panning for gold, making trips in his Can-Am side-by-side, or in Quartzite, Arizona.
Dave’s favorite place was wherever his kids & grandkids were. He loved teaching them about anything, everything, and life in-general. He thought his grandkids were his greatest achievement and was so proud of them. He had the ability to make each one feel like they were his favorite and took the time to sincerely listen to whatever they had to say or to just be with them. They never doubted his love for them.
Dave was a jack-of-all-trades and could be counted on to drop whatever he was doing and help someone in-need. He fixed anything and everything, and it was usually better that when it was originally made. Dave was also at home in his workshop. He made countless inventions and improvements while out back. Trailers, gun safes, and fence gates are just a few of his accomplishments.
Dave worked at Electrical Wholesale Supply (EWS) for many years and made many friends. Dave’s expertise in computers and electronics made him a sought-after resource in many local circles. He retired from EWS in 2014.
Dave was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings. His faith in, and testimony of, the Savior was strong and was always evident in his willingness to help, serve, teach, and love. His example is one we should all try to follow.
Dave is survived by his daughter Brittany Wilbur (Cade); son Jason (Callie); and 9 grandchildren (Caitlynn, Camden, Carsen, Easton, Braden, Saylor, Ryker, Logan, and Memphis). He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Shelley.
He will be dearly missed by everyone.

“When I waved bye bye, I prayed Godspeed, I wished you lovely weather, more luck than you’ll need. We only sail in circles, so there’s no need to cry, yes, I’ll see you again one day… and then I waved bye bye”. – from “I Wave Bye Bye” by Jimmy Buffett
