David (Dave) Allen Hemingway

March 22, 1941 — January 18, 2019

David (Dave) Allen Hemingway was a remarkable man that will be missed terribly. Yet people keep telling us that he is in a better place. We disagree. You see, Dave had a profound impact on all those that had a chance to cross his path. Almost immediately people would recognize and often comment to us about his charismatic nature or jolly, kind, genuine and selfless ways; people would love Dave and would do so quickly. He never commanded respect, people just willingly threw it at him in droves and in kind he would always reciprocate. Never one to shy away from a joke, albeit his “dad” jokes were often corny, they, their delivery and the laughs he gave after, became the calling card that made him a truly funny man. He would happily join in on a U of U, Utah Man song and would take opportunities to make people feel their best, which was every opportunity. Dave was intensely generous and gave everyone he met a piece of himself that regardless of whether they recognized it or not, made them better for it and for having met him. So no, he is not going to a better place, but that place and those he is with are better for having him. Dave passed away peacefully on January 18th surrounded by family, friends and loved ones. He was the son of Walt and Mary Hemingway, was a graduate of South High class of 1959 and an avid Utes fan. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. We will be having a celebration of his life at The Depot: 13N 400 West, Salt Lake City, Ut 84101 on February 23rd from 11:00 to 3:00. In honor of his memory please wear your favorite Utah clothes or the color red. Dad, your life… ‘Twas a thing of beauty!! Go UTES!
