David Carter Terry

It is with deep sadness that the family of David Carter Terry, 73, announce his passing from his valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. He was a kind, quiet, gentle man, who never gave up and fought hard the past 3 years. He was born October 31, 1947 (a Halloween baby) to Frank Joseph and Fern Carter Terry in Salt Lake City, UT. He was raised in Sugarhouse where he attended Highland High School. After graduating, he was called to serve in the California South Mission from 1966-1968. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1970-1972 where he was stationed in Saigon. Upon returning home, David reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Linda Festin, and they were married on April 29, 1977. David worked for Sears as a Shipping Manager while he attended LDS Business College earning a degree in both Business Management and Computer Programming. After receiving his degrees, he started his career as a computer programmer at Utah Home Life Insurance and First Security Bank and then transitioned to Wells Fargo as a Financial Crime Investigator. David was also an entrepreneur, owning a small wallpaper and painting business early in his adulthood. After retirement, David started another small business, “Light in a Bottle”. He enjoyed taking his bottle creations to the local farmers markets, but for him, he could have cared less about selling anything, he just enjoyed meeting new people and chatting with other vendors. David liked to spend his time gardening, putting puzzles together, playing games with friends, going for drives in his convertible, and traveling to places like Thailand, Alaska, and the Caribbean. David loved to bake, and his favorites were Grandma’s cookies and his English muffins. David most enjoyed spending any time he could with his family; especially his 3 grandchildren. David loved the Oregon Coast and has taken his family there every summer for the past 39 years. The Coast will never be the same without you! We are going to miss all your “dad jokes”, your daily check-ins, your baking skills, and your love for all of us. We love you and will miss you so much! David is survived by his wife, Linda, daughter Amy (Ryan) Ferrara, daughter Jennifer (Danielle) Terry-Dontas, 3 grandchildren Carson, Ellie and Evie, his brother, Mark, Step-Mother, Lucile Terry, and step-sister, Janice (Nathan) Ridge. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ron and Brent, and sister Janet. Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral service on September 30, 2021 at 11:00 AM with a viewing one-hour prior at the Bennion West Stake Center 3045 W. Bernina Drive, Taylorsville. There will be a viewing on Wednesday evening September 29, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery 6500 S. Redwood Rd. Taylorsville. We are asking everyone to observe appropriate COVID-19 masking and distancing guidelines. Services will also be live streamed via  http://mywebcast.churchofjesuschrist.org/bennionutahweststake
