David Albert Weidner

May 5, 1938 — December 27, 2016

David Albert Weidner, loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, was called home unexpectedly from his mortal journey on December 27, 2016 surrounded by his wife and children.
David was born on May 5, 1938 in Salt Lake City to Joseph Weidner and Ruth Hooper Weidner. He married the love of his life and eternal companion, Carol (Judy) Collett in the Salt Lake Temple on December 15, 1961.   He was a man of great faith and charity, a follower of Christ, and lived by this every day of his life’s journey.  His greatest accomplishment and most cherished blessing was his family. They raised 8 children, 7 daughters and 1 son and was so proud of their accomplishments and love for one another. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke his words were full of wisdom and compassion.
Dave graduated from South High School and earned his Business Marketing Degree from the University of Utah. He pioneered a successful Manufacturers Rep business, spanning over 4 decades, in which his name and the name “Weidner and Associates” is still held in high regard in the business community. He was always honest in his business dealings and was very well respected by those he worked and dealt with. He continued to play an active role in his family business up until his death. His presence there will be missed by all who were fortunate to work for him, and with him. His legacy remains and will be felt for many years to come through those who follow in his footsteps continuing his successful business.
Dave was a faithful University of Utah athletic fan.   There was not many…football or basketball game he missed, whether it was on TV or in the stands. He was often heard yelling at the television in hopes of changing a bad call, or influencing the outcome of the game. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was able to spend precious time enjoying both of these pastimes with his son and even his daughters.
Dave and Carol were fortunate to have traveled the world together. They were able to visit every continent and had many wonderful experiences with friends and family members who always accompanied them. They loved spending time together in St George enjoying golfing or just movies and eating. They spent quiet, lazy days enjoying the beautiful cabin they built together for their family to enjoy, four wheeling in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter.
Dave was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many capacities over his lifetime. In his youth, he was the youngest boy in Utah to receive his Eagle Scout certificate. Later in life he served as a Scoutmaster and influenced many young men to strive to do their best in life.
He served a faithful mission for two years in the Australia South Mission and touched many lives while serving there. Some of the people he came in contact with have become life-long friends.   Dave and Carol together served as missionaries in the Ohio Kirtland Visitor Center where they gave tours and bore testimonies of the restoration. They continued their service as missionaries in the Sugarhouse Employment Resource Center.
Dave served as Bishop for many years in the Holladay South 14th ward. He was loved by all who knew him due to his wisdom, humble attitude, and kind heart. He especially loved working with the youth and they loved him.

His relationship with his sweet wife, Carol, is one to be admired and emulated by all who witnessed it. He always showed much love and respect toward her in all that he did. He made sure that his children always understood that she was his queen and together they would walk hand in hand in this life and throughout eternity. This is the greatest gift he has given to his family.
His absence here in this mortal existence has profoundly affected many. His influence and love will be missed by those who knew and loved him, but his legacy will live on through his posterity. We know that his reunion was a glorious occasion with those who have gone before him, and they were there to welcome him home. We will miss him, and will anxiously be awaiting that day when we once again can see his caring, sweet face, and hold him in our arms. We know that he will be watching over us, and will be a ministering angel to his sweetheart until that time. Until we meet again! We love you!!
Dave is survived by his wife carol (Judy) Collett Weidner, his children, Lynnette (Bruce) Adams, Rebecca (Brad) Colligan, Allison (Patrick) Marcroft, Christine (Craig) Hansen, Amy (Mont) Vanwagenen, Dianne (Troy) Mcbride, Mark (Alysia) Weidner, Suzanne (Das) Jettie. 36 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and two more on the way. Also survived by two sisters, and one brother, Raymond (Nancy) Weidner, Judy (Bill) Romney, and Marybeth (Ken) Wynder. Preceded in death by his mother and father.
