Darlene Louise Monson

July 7, 1934 — December 21, 2021

Our beloved and cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, daughter, sister and loyal friend, Darlene Louise Monson, passed peacefully at home on December 21, 2021. Darlene was born on July 7, 1934, in Salt Lake City to Albert Bailey and Hjordis Torgersen. She met her eternal companion, Jack Mayne Monson, when he borrowed an ice cream maker for a party that she didn’t want to attend. He picked her up at 5 p.m. and the rest is history. They were sealed for time and all eternity on July 2, 1954, in the Salt Lake City Temple.
Darlene possessed many talents including sewing, baking, flower arranging, quilting, cake decorating, gardening, and creating meaningful birthday gifts for loved ones. While one of the meekest people you could know, she was a fierce competitor with board games of all kinds, corks, and any backyard game. Darlene enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading. An excellent athlete, Darlene played and coached softball on the Salt Lake City League.
Darlene served as an ordinance worker in the Jordan River Temple for 20 years, a service missionary at the LDS Church’s Employment Center, Stake Primary Presidency, ward Relief Society presidencies and numerous other church callings. She promised the Lord to never refuse a calling or assignment. Her greatest legacy is how she taught us to serve others, love unconditionally, and align our will with the Lord’s.
Darlene is survived by children Don (Chris) Monson, Debra (Glenn) Staley, Jeff (Brenda) Monson, Abbie Roderick, Renn (Cathy) Monson and Benjamin (Michelle) Monson, sister Carol (John) Hansen, 19 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Jack, grandson Brady Monson, granddaughter Mandy Monson, brothers Bert, Harry, Keith, LaMar, Ron, Tom and sister Betty.
Darlene’s family wish to thank Canyon Home Care and Hospice for their wonderful care of our dear mother.
